The teachers in St Michael's Class would like to say well done to all of the children who practise their spellings at home! Well done! Keep it up!

In Literacy this week (week 3), we have started a new story called Leah's Star by Margaret Bateson-Hill and Karin Littlewood. We played a game of pass the parcel which revealed different clues about our new story and we had to speculate about what our new story was about. Laura, Olivia, Maria-Luiza, Hanna and Mollie made the nativity scene from a cardboard box. It is fabulous! They worked together well as a team, were resourceful and creative!

We also wrote some speech bubbles to show Leah's thoughts and feelings at the beginning of the story.

We have had a very busy start to term two! Our new topic this term is journeys. Take a look at our fabulous homework - we have been working really hard at home! Some of us made some models of different modes of transport, some of us described a journey that we had been on and some of us thought about a journey that we would like to go on in the future!

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace: Amazon.co.uk: Hoffman, Mary, Binch, Caroline: Books

This term we have been learning the story Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman. Grace wrote us a letter asking us to write her a report about ourselves so that she can find out more about us. Take a look at some of out reports below. We have been working hard on writing sentences that start with a capital letter, have finger spaces, a full stop and make sense.

In maths we have been learning about the place value of numbers. We have been representing numbers to 100 in tens and ones.

Superworm by Julia Donaldson

Superworm: Amazon.co.uk: Donaldson, Julia, Scheffler, Axel: Books

This week we have been learning all about worms! We went on a worm hunt in the playground and read a non-fiction text about worms so that we could find out more about them and use these facts to help us understand the story Superworm by Julia Donaldson. We have been learning to retrieve information from the pictures and the text. We also had a go at making our on worm fact books during independent learning:

In RE we learnt the story David and Goliath. We used this story to think about our special talents. We have lots of talents in St Michael's Class!

Homework

I am really impressed with the effort that Laura and Hanna have put into learning their spellings at home! Well done!
